Bargello Again

This is the bargello wall hanging that I finished last week.  It is wall hanging size (approximately 47" X 47").  It is just big enough to see the criss cross ribbon design, but not too big that you lose interest before you finish.  There are 43 rows, and you can't work until you are overtired because you make mistakes.  Here is the process that I went through to make this wall hanging.
The first step is fabric selection, and even though the sewing was pretty time consuming, I believe that the fabric selection was the hardest part of this quilt.
The pattern called for different color groupings with color gradations.
Here are the groupings sewn into strip sets.  So really this quilt (wall hanging) is choosing the fabric, cutting it into strips, sewing it back together again, cutting it again, and sewing it back together.
Here are the first two rows.  I thought about just making a log cabin out of all those strips at this point.
But, after sewing a few more rows together, I could see the pattern emerging.  So I kept going.
Ahhh, there is the criss cross design.  I could see what the finished wall hanging would look like.
Just a few more rows, and it will be done.
I put a green inside border on, then I sewed a rust flange on and ended with a larger green border.
I'd love to do one in true reds and greens for Christmas.   But......I saw another technique on a blog that I'd like to try one of these days.....

Hope you are stitching today!!!!!

  4. I love it! The colors are just great and they all came together so well. My youngest daughter keeps pointing out Bargello quilts and telling me how much she likes them. Maybe I should make one for her. Maybe someday. They finished effect is just stunning.
