Red and White Antique Quilt

After seeing all of the photos of the red and white quilt exhibit at the American Folk Art Museum in New York, I thought I would show you the red and white quilt that was made by my Grandmother.   She died in 1923 so I know this quilt is at least 88 years old.  As you can see in the photo, it has been used and well loved.
Even though the quilt is not in perfect condition, I'm so happy that I have it.

This quilt is made from the Jacob's Ladder pattern.  I pulled some of my red fabrics and decided to make a block.  I think I should have either used a white background or made the shirtings scrappy.
I'm working on a couple of projects that use 2 1/2 inch squares, and I have an overflowing container so.......
This is how the same block(s) look made with random scraps.
Right now I'm really liking the red and white block.

Hope you are all stitching today.  Thanks for stopping by for a visit!

I like both the blocks, and LOVE your grandmother's quilt! :-D My great grandmother was the quilter in our family. She died in the 1960's and sadly we don't have any of her quilts. Be sure to document yours well to pass on down the family line!
Blessings,
Mary Lou

Thank you for showing us your wonderful quilt. I love to see them. I have an old quilt, and it is the reason I quilt now. I'll have to take some photos for my blog one day.

My mother has a similar quilt from her mother and the block is called Road to California. I wonder if they're the same block. These antique family heirlooms are real treasures.

I love your grandmother's quilt. First I love red & white quilts plus it was made by your grandmother which all the more special. Thanks for sharing it. I think maybe I have one in storage too. What great inspiration.

Your scrappy blocks remind me of the Buckeye Beauty quilt that was on the cover of AP&Q. Have you seen it? I keep it on my coffee table to remind myself to get busy and make it.

What a treasure your grandma's quilt is. Just great. I love how you are experimenting with the blocks yourself. I like the red, but the scrappy is fun, too!

Love the red & white quilt! I think there are going to be a lot of new ones made this year with the popularity of the display of the red & white quilts in New York City. Everyone is inspired by it.
