More Hexagons and An Idea

Today is One Flower Wednesday.  Thanks to Karen at www.journeyofaquilter.blogspot.com for hosting this.  I have fallen a bit behind the last couple of weeks, so I did 3 flowers this week.
I love this center piece of fabric with the brown birds.  I think I still have a bit of it left but not much.
I've been making a flower or two for the last few weeks and wondered where they would end up.  I thought I would make this quilt:
This is from the book, Small Blocks, Stunning Quilts, by Mary Elizabeth Kinch and Biz Storms, which is still one of my favorite books.  This book was released in late 2008, and I still want to make every quilt in this book someday.
But then I saw this quilt in Quiltmania magazine, and I think maybe this is what I'll do with the hexagons I've been making.  I love that applique' center surrounded by the hexagons.
I have 14 hexagons....so I'll keep stitching.  I hope you are all spending some time stitching on your favorite project.  Thanks for stopping by for a visit.

  1. Three beauties LuAnn! I just LOVE the one in the middle and both patterns are fabulous. I have that wonderful book, but I think I would go with the Aunt Sarah version, that is beautiful and makes me want to start another hexagon flower garden.

  11. Dear LuAnn,
Aunt Sarah is so wonderful. I've seen this quilt on other blogs and I admire it. I think, it's difficult, but I would go with the Aunt Sarah version. Or, if you'll finish it, your start with a new flower garden.
    I hope you'll have a happy easter
    Take care

  18. LuAnn --I have not been successful in sending you an email (who knows why!) but I have been fascinated by your post on my blog about your 1.5" 9 patches. I saw the quilt on your Picassa album and it is spectacular. Absolutely amazing. Have you done a post on it with more details and closeups? You rock! Jan at iquiltforfun.blogspot.com

  19. Oh, that is a fabulous quilt! I've never seen one like it!
Your birdie hexie is darling. That fabric you surrounded it with is really interesting, the way you did the fussy cuts. I'm ready to start making hexies again. I got a little bored with them and put them away for a while, but I'm taking them to my Dr appt this afternoon. I know I'll be in that waiting room for a LONG LONG time!

  23. Your middle flower with the bird in the centre is my favourite. The fussy cut petals have a feathery effect too.
    Both layouts are lovely.

  24. Nice! I love that bird in the center. And I love the green stripe one how you organized it. I am going to stay with my mom for 3 weeks, and I'm going to take some hand work. I picked up some hexagon papers the other day, thinking maybe I'll make some hexies. We'll see!
