My Design Wall Today

I've left my design wall behind this week to take a little vacation in the mountains.  Here is the view from my balcony.

When I travel I usually pack one of my quilts to sleep under.  This quilt is called Fall Foilage Spectacular from Judy Martin's book Cookies 'N Quilts.  I set my blocks a little different so there would be 4 leaves in the center instead of having a log cabin center.

I quilted this quilt on my home machine.  I bought a leaf stencil at a quilt show and then practiced drawing it on a sketch pad until I felt ready to try and quilt it on the quilt.

Everything here is decorated for fall.  Here is a display from the welcome center where we stopped.

I hope you are all enjoying fall (or spring) and doing some stitching today.  I've brought my crocheting along and will show my progress soon.

  8. Gorgeous quilt, LuAnn!! I have always had it in the back of my mind to make a quilt combining log cabin blocks with leaf blocks and doing it in fall colors, but I never envisioned anything this beautiful. I agree with Maureen--the blue and bright green really add pizzazz!
Thanks for showing the quilting up close and explaining your process. I feel like that is expressly for my benefit (whether it is or not) and I love it. : )

  18. How funny, I also traveled with quilts although usually we're flying and I don't. I told Keith we were going to be in Maine for a month and I wanted to sleep under my own quilt.

The quilt looks great on the balcony -- I love taking photos of mine on whatever balcony is at hand and this one has a great view.
