Road 66 Hexagons and Storm Damage

I've been working more on my Road 66 hexagons from the book Primarily Quilts.  Here are the last two that I've finished.

I really enjoy the fussy cutting on these hexagons and will be kind of sorry when this quilt is put together.

Here are a few of my earlier hexagons along with the outside border fabric.

I probably have enough hexagons finished to do the entire quilt.  I am still glue basting so that part of it goes quickly.  These hexagons are 1 1/8".

Oh Halloween night, we had a terrible storm blow through here.  There was a lot of wind, hail and noise, but it wasn't until the next morning that we saw just how much damage we had.  I think the largest limb that came down was 10 inches in diameter.

We were lucky with this limb.  I stash my unused flower pots here, and I think they saved that limb from taking out the hose that connects the heat pump with the house.

The workers have most of the yard cleaned up now.  The house wasn't damaged in any way, so we were lucky.

  5. Wonderful hexies! I remember when that border fabric came out. I really liked it in red and kept wondering what I could use it in. So I didn't buy it. Will look great in that Ford quilt.
    Glad you survived that storm!

  8. Your hexies are so pretty, and the border fabric is perfect. I am playing around with an English Paper piecing block, deciding if I like doing it enough to commit to a whole quilt, and I have appreciated your posts on your hexies. I especially appreciate all the glues you tried!

Glad that you didn't have any real problems as a result of that storm.

Oh, did you know that your tab for the paper piecing tutorial links back to your blog's home page, not a tutorial? Just FYI

  16. Yikes! It was unsettled here on Halloween...the rain did not stop the T or T's...they came for the candy despite the weather, which is good! I love your hexie's. I just received that book and it is certainly GREAT eye candy...I don't know what to dream about stating first. Teresa :o)

  17. Your hexies blocks are gourgeous, they look good all toghether with the fabric you chose for the borders. I'm working on simply red and white hexie flowers and I can say I am in love with them. I am very temped to try Celtic Solstice Mistery by Bonnie Hunter, with the original colors or as close as possible to the color card she suggests. Let's see.

  18. Love the red and black hexagons! I think they would go well with a Chinese-inspired table top or room design if you ever plan to go in that direction.

As for the storm damage, it’s good that it wasn’t close enough to the house to hit the roof or a window. I guess it’s time to trim those trees that are a bit too close to your house for comfort.
