The Unpacking Begins.....

I still have things to unpack that aren't quilt or yarn related, but I couldn't resist opening a few of the boxes in my sewing room.  Here is the first UFO that I opened.  This is the center and some of the blocks to the Kim McLean quilt Hearts and Flowers from the book Quilt Romance by Kaffe Fassett.

Then I found this tin with the Primitive Gatherings tiny thimble template along with a lot of red and shirting thimbles already cut and a couple of pieces of fabric with tiny stars to make a flag.

I need to count my baskets for the Trick or Treat basket quilt from When the Cold Wind Blows by Blackbird Designs.  I started making these baskets in a reduced size and then switched to the larger size in the book.  I think the ones in the book finish at 5".  I think I've made some that will finish at 3".

These blocks are from Holly and Mistletoe from When the Cold Wind Blows.  That is one of my favorite quilt books.  The center applique' wasn't in the box with the blocks and other fabrics.  I won't panic just yet.

These are hexagons that my Mom sewed by hand.  She made enough blocks to finish a quilt for my son and daughter-in-law, but she passed away before she could finish my daughter's quilt.  She has been gone almost 18 years.  I really should finish this one......

I've missed my Kaffe and Brandon fabrics.  This is my small container.  I know there is more somewhere else.

Lime, black and white.  I have a plan for these fabrics.  I'd forgotten about the Betty Boop fabric!

I'll open a few more boxes tomorrow and show you what I find.

Thanks for stopping by!

I hope you are finding some time to stitch!

  1. Wow what lovely projects, LuAnne; I especially like that P.McLean Heart--I have that KF book and have been drooling over it--but I am not a proficient enough (not any kind really) of appliquer. Did you have h patterns enlarged 200% like they suggest??? Yours looks lovely!Just wondering..lol hugs, Julierose

  7. Isn't it fun to find old projects and know why you've kept them for so long! I have had to move my room around about 3 times in the past year. I'm still trying to find time to get it just right! I'd love to invite you over to my blog as I love to do EPP also! I use a few different techniques and I also don't do the normal shapes. Take a peek if you have time! Have a good day unpacking!

  9. It is fun opening up boxes and discovering things you have forgotten about. But it is so frustrating when you keep opening things and can't find something that you know should be there! I am still looking for 9 yards of a backing fabric that I love and a whole bolt of a French General background, how could they just disappear! Good luck and I hope you are enjoying each discovery.

  10. My favourite is the first one, I truly love it! It's so colorful and as you know I love kaffe Fasset fabric.
Do you think I can still find this pattern anywhere? I would love to make it!

18 years! You should finish the hexagons quilt soon and give it to your son, your mom made a great job. So your love for quilting comes from your mum?

Nice to see you are in your new home!

I imagine you have lot of unpacking to do!

    A big hug

  15. Isn't moving great for a Quilter? - Heck - even rearranging and cleaning out drawers are fun.

What wonderful projects - you will also be a busy bee this winter when all is settled in.

Cannot believe it is AUGUST! My working years (38) did not seem to pass this fast - darn it!

  16. Why is it that your UFO's look so much more fun to work on than mine, LOL?!? I even have some of the same ones that you do (like the applique baskets...). Maybe I need to get mine out and take pretty pictures of them to make me fall in love with them again, sigh. We are contemplating a move in a year...possibly to Alabama to live in my parents house and be a caretaker on the property. We've been in this house 20 years, and I dread having to move the quilt cave. I am glad to see that you have survived the worst part of the process...packing up and moving. Now you have the fun of taking your time and setting things up just like you want them. I like your light and bright sewing room. Good luck with the fun of all of that!
