Veteran's Day Parade

I have a habit of getting a blog post ready and then it never sees the light of day.  I know Veterans Day was awhile ago, but I want to post this because I had more fun marching in this parade than I can possibly tell you.

On Veteran's Day I marched in the annual parade along with the Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  Our Chapter had 500 American flags to pass out to Veterans and children along the parade route.  That's me second from the right with my hands full of flags.




We arrived downtown early so had time to visit the World War II Memorial.

Arriving early, we were able to wander through the crowds and talk to a lot of the Veterans and hear their stories.  There were several floats in the parade.  These people made this float in honor of two of their brothers that had fought in Viet Nam.

This float is to honor Pearl Harbor Survivors.



Here is a Veteran in one of the track chairs that you hear so much about.  The National Guard was on hand to direct traffic and to answer questions.



For awhile it looked like we were going to march behind these 4 huge horses.....

But the Honor Guard stepped in to save the day.

I don't have a photo, but the National Guard Marching Band fell in line behind the Honor Guard, so we had some good marching music on the route.

At times, it was organized chaos, but it was a very heart warming day.  I can't wait to do it again next year.
