Talkin' Turkey and Fabric

Here is my finished Talkin' Turkey quilt top from the Bonnie Hunter workshop that I attended in Cincinnati a couple of weeks ago.  The pattern for this quilt can be found in Bonnie's book, String Fling.   I made my quilt one row shorter and one row narrower than the original so it would fit on a full sized bed.  I love this quilt, and it's one that I would make again in a different color.

On Friday after the quilt show in Lebanon, Kentucky (that's been about 3 weeks ago), that I posted about here, we went to Fabric Shack.  I have no proof that I was there because I didn't take one single photo.  Oh wait.....there's the charge receipt for proof.  I've ordered from them on line before, but this was my first time in their shop.

Since there are no photos of the shop, I'll just show you some of the fabric that I came home with.  This is from Moda.  I may make some hexagons out of this.  I really don't have a plan.  I just bought it because it was pretty.

More fabric without a plan, but I liked the red fabric.  I'm sure there is a plan for that border print.

The black and white came from Pohlar Fabrics booth at the quilt show.  I thought the brights would look good with the black and white.  And I guess I don't have a plan for these fabrics either.

I do have a plan for these.  The batik in the center will be my border.

After we took Bonnie Hunter's Talkin' Turkey class on Saturday, we went to IKEA.  I love that place, and the one in West Chester, OH, is the closest one to me.  We shopped and ate chicken tenders in their cafe.

I bought the IKEA cart.  Mine is tan color.  I have it by my recliner in the family room filled with sewing and knitting.

I won these fabric scraps from Kelli over at Seriously I Think It Needs Stitches blog.    The fabric is Blackbeard's Pirates from Riley Blake.  I bought the piece on the left to use for border.

Before all of this, I was doing a good job of not starting new projects and not buying fabric unless I needed it for a project that I was trying to finish.  I think I'm going to print this out and hang it up in my sewing room.............

I hope you are finding some time to stitch today.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit.

  1. Talkin' Turkey is lovely. You've finished a lot of quilts this year so far. Your new fabrics are pretty. I'm using some of the gold with white dots in an applique quilt. The stores in Shipshe are full of fabric, waiting for your arrival! Blessings, Gretchen

  3. I got a giggle out of the oft repeated "I have no plan for it". Then I saw the closing thought and had to laugh out loud!
I see all of these cool things from IKEA on blogs and wonder why I haven't gone yet--the nearest one is about 1 1/2 hours. I have passed it many times, but I am always on my way to somewhere, and I have been warned that it should be my destination--you can't just drop in quickly the first time.
Talkin' Turkey is very eye-catching. Two color quilts have so much more depth when they are done in scraps like this, IMHO. : )

  5. Ooh, I love that little cart from Ikea. I'd love to have one, but no place to put it. :-( Talkin' Turkey is grand. I understand the need for new fabric now and then, even if you've sworn off new purchases. Sometimes you just need a little something to kick up the motivation! I may have bought some fabric yesterday and started something new today. maybe. I've spent the morning sorting and organizing again, and feel really good with what I have. Now, off to start yet another small new project using my stash/scraps.

  6. Your Talkin'Turkey is fabulous! And your stash enhancement is superb... isn't Fabric Shack wonderful? I was just there yesterday and several pieces followed me home that I have no clue what I'll do with them but when the time comes I'll be happy I have them. Good choice at IKEA... I have 2 of these one in tan in my office and one in turquoise in my sewing room. Sounds like you had a great time in my fair city... of course I'm a bit bias as there really is no place like home. Happy stitching!

  7. All those wonderful red fabrics. I like your quilt very much because it is what I call a controlled scrappy quilt. Not a hodgepodge of whatever you grab without looking.

  9. I love love love that IKEA cart. I bought one for my in progress crochet, hand sewing etc I do in my recliner. Well, I recently bought 3 more. One for snacks, etc in the kitchen, one to sit my 1948 Featherweight on the top and accessories in the lower shelves. It's case is still stinky years after buying it. The last one is next to my sewing machine and I built a sturdy pressing board to fit the top so I can press as I sew. I have miscellaneous sewing items in the lower shelves. The are so well built to be made in china and roll out of the way so nicely. They are reasonably priced and mine are all in blue. I wish they came in orchid!

  14. LuAnn the TT is absolutely stunning!!! I so miss my piecing - now caught up with all the hand work I am ready to sew again! What a neat selection of fabric wonder what you are going to do with the "selected for a project" stack of fabrics. Bet it will be pretty. I wonder sometimes what I am going to do with all the patterns that have never been made!

I think the fabric faeries bring in more fabric at night in my Studio - I make quilts, but the stash is never reduced.... Wonder why? LOL

    Keep up the good work!
