I know I said I was starting Stonefields, but when I got downstairs to my sewing room I saw a pile of nine patches. So I got an idea. Our challenge for the next retreat is to sew something that reminds us of Rebecca Haarer that owns Rebecca's Arts and Antiques in Shipshewana, IN. Somehow I missed the trip to the church cabin where the original quilt is hanging, but the girls that went took photos. Here's my design wall with the blocks that I've sewn so far.
The Christmas cross stitches that you see hanging around the edge somehow didn't make it upstairs with the other pieces of cross stitch that I have in my basket of shame to be finished somehow so I can display them.
This is the photo that one of the girl's posted of the Church Cabin quilt. It's really pretty simple. It's a nine patch of nine patches. The little individual nine patches finish at 3". I've loved this quilt since the first time someone posted photos of it. Several of the girls from the retreat have made their own version of the quilt. I'm still doing handwork at night, but this is my new machine piecing project.
Thanks for stopping by for a visit.
I hope you're finding time to stitch today.

Nice that you are starting Stonefields.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris. I know it's a long term project, but it's been on my to do list for quite awhile so I'm going to get started on it.
DeleteI love 9-Patch quilts and this one is a beauty. You have a very beautiful start on that one. Enjoy! ;^)
ReplyDeleteI just love that nine patch on your blog header. I'm like you-I love any quilt with nine patches.
DeleteI like the church cabin quilt also and want to make one someday but there are so many quilts I want to make! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteSomehow I had this bag of nine patches that were the exact same size. I'm having to make more to do the whole quilt, but this one has been on my list for awhile.
DeleteYour version of Church Cabin quilt is going to be great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bonnie. Your picture looks really familiar, and I don't know if I've ever met you.
DeleteThat is a great quilt, and you've made a good start. Do you plan to use green sashing, or do you have another color in mind?
ReplyDeleteI've seen this quilt with other colors of sashing. I don't have a lot of green in my nine patches so I think I'll sash with the green. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteThat church cabin quilt is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks Meredith. Machine stitching isn't my favorite, but I made most of the nine patches quite awhile ago so I thought this would be a good use for them.
