Scrappy Saturday String Blocks

I'm joining the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over at Soscrappy blog again this year.  Last year I got in over my head and tried to make an entire quilt top a couple of the months during the challenge.  So instead I've decided to just make a few blocks each month this time.

I love making string blocks, and after making part of the string blocks for the Orca Bay Mystery quilt I made these red string blocks that will finish at 3 inches.  I'm not sure what I'll do with them, but I love the way they look in all of the Orca Bay quilts I've seen.

I hope you are finding some time to stitch today.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit!

  1. I am missing the "love making string blocks" gene. Wish I wasn't because I sure like how they look in quilts. These will give life to whatever project you make with them. : )

  2. I haven't tried making much with strings. I sure love the look of them. Not sure I have the patience to make them either (like Janet O). :-)

  3. Yes getting in over our heads. I am doing the challenge for the first time this year and worry about that. I love your string blocks. I may do some string blocks or crumbs. Not sure what I will make with them.

  5. Such a great way to use up all the scraps. They go so quickly and look so cute in the smaller size. Glad you are joining in again this year.

  9. I also got a kick out of the little string blocks from Orca Bay. Really I only made a few of the first step, but made all 72 of the little blue strings! So I'm ahead for some other project...we'll see. Your reds make me want to do those, too. I never thought of making strings this small, but it was so simple! Keep up the inspiration ~

  10. Your little string blocks are really cute. I'm doing some string blocks too. Mine are bigger and are quilt as you go. So far, I've made three reds and I might be able to make 4 more. I put the three red together but now I'm not sure I want to do that. I was thinking about doing stings in all different colors and putting them randomly together instead of color rows. Just thinking out loud here. Let me know what you think...

  12. I love string blocks, too. I haven't had time to use all the strips in the box I'm saving - or any of them - but I plan to. Your tiny ones are great!

  13. Love those string blocks... they can be addicting though! Great idea on only doing some blocks each month... I too did a couple of quilts last year in the colors and it was lots of work!
