Today I have a few nine patches on my design wall. They are made more or less from the same line of fabric and will finish at 6 inches. The reason I said "a few" is that there are 72 in the photo; I have 175 total. I plan to make a quilt for our king sized bed. I've had these nine patches in a baggie for a few years. I'm not sure why; I really like them. Maybe I just could never figure out quite how to set them.
I found this photo in the latest issue of American Patchwork & Quilting. If I use this setting the quilt will be too large because the nine patches in the magazine are smaller. I kind of like this layout because there are places for your eye to rest.
Here is an idea from the Connecting Threads website.
I have a bit of yardage left from these fabrics plus a few pieces of some of the others from the line. There are lots of nine patch ideas to choose from.

One of my favorite quilts is one my grandma made. She alternated white muslin with nine patch blocks. The white made it light and bright.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to choose one layout. They all look good. I do like the one you found on the Connecting Threads site.
ReplyDeleteWow your design Wall looks so beautiful and you have put the blocks just right!! I cannot wait to see this quilt finished Luann..
ReplyDeleteI love your buyings on your post under here too. One of my favorites is red fabrics !!
I like the dark - makes the colors in the 9-patches really pop. Lucky girl - 175! I used mine with a pillar print, but didn't have 175, nor a king size when i finshed...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
That is one fabulous nine-patch photo!
ReplyDeleteLoving your 9patch...i did one last year inspired by an antique one...here is a link to my pic http://cardygirl.blogspot.com/2010/07/9-patch-nearly-there.html. Keen to see yours progress....my husband loves mine!
ReplyDeleteI like your connecting thread layout and plan to make something similar one day. If you get the lights and darks laid out in the right section with the two different backgrounds it is going to be smashing!
ReplyDeleteWhatever layout you choose, I have a feeling that you will have one or two 9-patches left over....
ReplyDeleteLove your scrappy 9 patches!!
ReplyDeleteYou look nice
ReplyDeleteI really like the setting from the magazine as my first choice. I love the little 9 patches within the big ones. The other setting is my 2nd choice.
ReplyDelete175 of these already done..???
ReplyDeleteThat's a great accomplishment! I love 9 patch quilts and I'm sure that yours is going to be fantastic no matter which of these fabrics you choose to add in. I look forward to seeing the top all finished!
Your 9 patches look stunning on the design wall.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing which design you decide on.
I like both of the ideas you've posted. Maybe you can use the remaining ones on the back and have a reversible quilt. That would be kind of fun!
